The object is to hit the ball against a wall with a small bat called a paddle. Only the side that is serving can win points. Points are scored when the opposing player or players fail to return a serve or volley. The player or pair that reaches twenty one points first wins the game and needs to win two games to win the match.

Pelota

Pelota is played on a court with three walls. The ball is called a pelota. Various forms of pelota are played throughout the world. The object of the game is to hit the ball against the front wall using a wicker basket attached to a glove ( called a cesta) in such a way that it is difficult for the opposing player to hit it when it rebounds. Only the server scores points. The game can be played by two players, four players (doubles) or six players (triples).

Pigeon Racing

Racing pigeons are trained to fly from the place it is released back to its home loft as quickly as possible. Each pigeon has a ring attached to its leg so it can be identified.

Polo

Polo is one of the oldest of all games and it originated In Persia. It is played by two teams of four players mounted on horses. The object is to score goals by hitting a ball through goals 24 feet wide with a polo stick (looks like a long thin mallet). The game is divided into eight periods, called chukkas. Each chukka lasts seven minutes. Extra time is played if the scores are level at the end of the final chukka.

Powerboat Racing

Powerboat racing started in about 1900. They can be raced inshore or offshore. The largest boats are raced offshore, but the cost of the boats and the fuel used in a race make it a very expensive sport. There are various classes to suit different sizes of boats. The course that the boats race around is marked out using buoys or racing markers.

Punting

Punting consists of propelling a long, narrow, flat-bottomed boat along a river using a pole. The person doing the punting stands up in the boat. It can be either a pleasant, leisurely recreation on a summers afternoon, or a fairly strenuous competitive sport.
