Olympic Championships were first held in 1900 for men and 1976 for women. Events are held for: (men) single, double and coxless quadruple sculls, coxless and coxed pairs, coxless and coxed fours and eights; (women) single and double skulls, coxless pairs, coxless quadruple sculls, coxed fours and eights. In sculling, the sculler has a smaller oar in each hand rather than pulling one oar with both hands.Rugby FivesRugby fives is a game played on a court with four walls. It can be played by two people or four (doubles). Players wear padded gloves on both hands. The object of the game is to hit the ball against the back wall using a gloved hand in such a way that it is difficult for the opposing player to hit the ball when it rebounds. Only the receiver of service can score points. The winner is the first player or pair to score fifteen points unless the score is fourteen points each then the first to reach sixteen points wins.Rugby LeagueRugby League originated as a breakaway from Rugby Union on 29 August 1895. In 1906 the change from 15-a-side to 13-a-side was made, and the title 'Rugby League' was created in 1922. Rugby league is played by two teams of thirteen players, with an oval ball. The object of the game is to score points by getting the ball across the opposing team's goal line and touching the ball against the ground ( a try), or kicking it over the crossbar of the H-shaped goal posts (a conversion). A try earns three points, a conversion earns two points, a drop goal earns 3 points in England (one point in some other countries) and a penalty goal earns two points. Each game lasts eighty minutes - two forty minute halves.Rugby UnionRugby Union is an amateur game, played in many countries, but it's especially popular in the UK and the Commonwealth countries. Rugby union is played by two teams of 15 players, with an oval ball. The object of the game is to score points by getting the ball across the opposing team's goal line and touching the ball against the ground ( a try), or kicking it over the crossbar of the H-shaped goal posts (a conversion). A try earns four points, a conversion earns two points, a drop goal earns 3 points and a penalty goal earns three points. Each game lasts eighty minutes - two forty minute halves.
