Volleyball

The game was invented in 1895 by William Morgan at Massachusetts, USA, as a game for those who found basketball too strenuous. Originally it was called as Minnonette, but the name was changed to volleyball a year later. It is played by two teams of six players (and six substitutes). The object of the game is to knock the ball over the net in a way that the opposing team are unable to return it over the net or prevent it hitting the ground. Players are permitted to use any part of their body above the waist to knock the ball over the net. A set lasts until one team has scored fifteen points and has a two point lead over the opposing team. If it does not have a two point lead, the set continues until a two point lead is obtained. Games last for five sets.
